Godspell composer Stephen Schwartz has quite the resume with musicals like Pippin, Wicked and Rags to his name, not to mention his three Oscar wins and six Tony nominations! On May 23 the cast of the current Broadway revival of Godspell paid tribute to their talented composer by celebrating his career with the Godspell Sings Schwartz benefit concert at Joe's Pub. With Schwartz in attendance, the energetic, young cast (led by Corbin Bleu) performed a variety of songs from Schwartz's catalog. Recently departed cast member Lindsay Mendez belted the Wicked anthem "The Wizard and I," while Bleu joined Anna Maria Perez de Tagle to duet on the ballad, "If I Never Knew You," from the 1995 animated Disney film Pocahontas. The whole ensemble then came together for Pippin's signature tune "Magic to Do." Take a look at highlights from the exciting evening below, then be sure to catch the Godspell family in action at the Circle in the Square Theatre.
